Masters in Arabian spheres

Finnish pianist Kari Ikonen couples virtuosity with a search for melodies and beauty, without therefore treading any well-trodden paths. Extra special is his own developed device "the Maqiano," which allows him to manipulate the pitch of the strings.

He joins forces in a special colab with the Belgian Fabrizio Cassol - saxophonist with Aka Moon and master of incorporating other cultures into his music. Two brilliant musicians who push the limits of their abilities and always strive for a sublime rendition of emotion.

In this work in progress, these two gentlemen get together for the very first time, taking themselves and their listeners for an adventurous journey to the magical universe of microtonality.

Opening act: Melting Pot

At Melting Pot you always get a meeting of fresh talent on stage. The musicians meet and play together with the energy of the moment. And exciting encounter that always produces something special. This time on stage:

  • baritone saxophonist Hanne De Backer
  • double bass player Beate Wiesinger
  • accordionist Zbigniew Chojnacki
  • guitarist Emil Storlokken

Melting Pot is a collaboration between five European venues: Victoria Scene (Oslo), Jazztopad (Wroclaw), Jazzfestival Berlin, Jazzfest Saalfelden and Ha Concerts. Each house contributes a musician.

Kari Ikonen is a deeply heartfelt pianist who is constantly searching for beauty. He finds it very often.
