Grammy-worthy jazz and spoken word

New York saxophone virtuoso Lakecia Benjamin began her career playing merengue, salsa, and Latin, but it wasn't long before jazz, funk, and R&B were lurking around the corner. The Monterey Jazz Festival named her Artist in Residence and she appeared on the cover of Downbeat Magazine. Three more Grammy nominations followed that year for Best Instrumental Composition, Best Jazz Performance and Best Instrumental Album.

She christened the album Phoenix - Rebirth. In this tour-de-force, she dealt with a near-death car accident in 2021 that left her with a broken jaw, three broken ribs and a new outlook on life. She came back stronger than ever.
