Through the centuries with classical Turkish music

The Istanbul Fasıl Ensemble brings together six specialist musicians dedicated to the rich repertoire of classical Turkish music. Featuring the singer Sadiye Erimli, now regarded as one of the genre’s leading performers, the ensemble presents a chronological journey through various stylistic periods and musical traditions.

The programme opens with compositions by Abdülkadir Meragi, the influential 15th-century music theorist and composer. The programme then surveys key figures from Ottoman musical history, including Buhurizade Mustafa Itri, Dede Efendi and Hacı Arif Bey. In this way, an overview unfolds of centuries of musical heritage that has retained its artistic refinement to this day.
