As a city of music, Ghent has a rich cultural heritage. To ensure this remains the case, this spring we are supporting Troika vzw in their mission to sharpen the ears of curious listeners through adventurous music. 

Giovanni Di Domenico

Giovanni Di Domenico, born in Rome on 20 July 1977, is a pianist currently living in Brussels. He studied jazz piano and developed a versatile technique in which non-Western traditions converge with influences from classical music, avant-garde jazz and pop. He has collaborated with musicians such as Nate Wooley, Chris Corsano and Jim O’Rourke. He also runs his own record label, Silent Water.

Manolo Cabras 

Manolo Cabras, born in Cagliari, began playing classical violin at the age of 11 and later switched to double bass. He obtained jazz diplomas in Siena and at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, and attended masterclasses with, amongst others, Dave Holland. He now lives in Brussels and is a fixture on the Belgian jazz scene.

He has performed at European and Asian festivals alongside icons such as Toots Thielemans and Enrico Rava. As well as collaborating with numerous bands (including the Erik Vermeulen Trio and Manu Hermia Freetet), he leads his own projects such as Fuzzy, the Manolo Cabras Quartet, Thelenyon Theory and Flying Nimbus.

Eric Thielemans

Eric Thielemans is a drummer, percussionist and musical thinker. He is known for his solo ventures (such as ‘a Snare is a Bell’) and collaborations within experimental music, jazz and indie. He has collaborated with artists including Oren Ambarchi, Charlemagne Palestine, Chantal Acda, Billy Hart and Laurie Anderson.

His work increasingly transcends the world of music, touching on visual arts, architecture and the performing arts, with a strong focus on site-specific projects and spatial experiences. In November 2022, he published the book *On Resonance: Scores, Notes & Conversations*, linked to a 48-hour programme he curated at the CASSTL art space.
