Fred Wesley was one of the pioneers of funk as we know it today. As a trombonist, bandleader and James Brown’s musical right-hand man , he helped shape some of the most influential grooves in music history. His playing and arrangements can be heard in countless recordings, samples and styles that have inspired generations of musicians.
During this Re:Context event, Wesley looks back on an exceptional career that took him from the explosive funk of James Brown and Parliament-Funkadelic to jazz venues all over the world. Drawing on personal stories, musical insights and memories from his autobiography *Hit Me, Fred *, he talks about the power of rhythm, the art of ensemble playing and the creation of a musical legacy that still resonates today. A unique encounter with a living legend who helped write the soundtrack to the modern groove.
