Shame are made up of five friends who’ve known each other since they were children, and it shows. Not in a cosy sort of way… but in the sense that they know exactly how to complement each other to create something that sounds bigger and rawer than the sum of its parts.
Over the past few years, the London band has built a reputation through three acclaimed albums and live shows that are consistently described as direct, confrontational and unfiltered. Five musicians (Charlie Steen, guitarists Sean Coyle-Smith and Eddie Green, bassist Josh Finerty and drummer Charlie Forbes) who go all out and give it their all.
Their latest album, Cutthroat (2025, Dead Oceans), was recorded with Grammy-winning producer John Congleton (St. Vincent, Angel Olsen) and is the most uncompromising work the band has produced to date. It tackles hypocrisy, cowardice and self-deception – grandly phrased, yet always with the sense of humour that sets Shame apart from bands who approach the same themes with deadly seriousness. Musically, it also breaks new ground: electronic elements creep into the songs without the project losing its core.
Shame has never sounded better.
