"Switches and mixes several genres and rhythms in an incredibly mastered and enjoyable way" - Best of Jazz, US
"The foam of a single wave and the breath of a single lung" - Bo van der Werf
"Compact, powerful and a bit crazy — a band with perspective" - Ralf Dombrowski bij de Burghausen Jazzwoche
The international trio Anaphora takes us on an unexpected journey: at breakneck speed through Balinese gamelan, ‘Musiques répétitives’ and echoes of techno music, which they bring together in a fresh take on contemporary jazz.
Anaphora is a cross-pollination between jazz and non-European musical traditions, centred on the preparation of the piano with wood. The group explores the power of the collective process in which sounds are dreamt and dreams are sounded out. With [Bloom], the trio crafts a musical hybrid free from genre or gender labels, in which colourful percussive spaces intertwine with meditative gongs and hypnotic melodies.
