Wim Mertens Ensemble (Strijkkwartet, Piano, Stem)

In 2006, 2007 and 2008, the Handelsbeurs was filled to capacity for Wim Mertens in no time. In April 2010, a new album by the Wim Mertens Ensemble, 'Zee versus zed', was released, containing ten works composed for strings, brass, harp and guitar. Mertens is a master in composing minimalist music. Since his debut in 1980 - 'For amusement only', an electronic composition for pinball machines - Wim Mertens has released more than 50 albums. The best known of these are 'At Home-Not at Home' (1980), 'Vergessen' (1982) and 'Struggle for pleasure', of which 'Close cover' is still one of his classics. Listening to Wim Mertens' music is like relaxing after a busy day at work.
