An Italian love story
The 46 short songs that comprise Hugo Wolf's Italienisches Liederbuch are based on a translation of anonymous Italian poems from 1860, the year of Wolf's birth. The verses that Wolf chose consist largely of Tuscan love poems that together form a story in which two lovers express various facets of their love (from tenderness to arguments to reconciliation).
It was the wish of the young soprano Liesbeth Devos and pianist Lucas Blondeel to perform this special work with bass-baritone Werner Van Mechelen. Sometimes dreams come true!
