Vlaamse Reuzen: Betty Mellaerts & Baron Buysse over Leonidas Kavakos & Dénes Várjon

The Greek violinistLeonidas Kavakos and the Hungarian pianist Dénes Várjon start their recital with Beethoven's second sonata for violin and piano, the middle copy of the triptych with which Beethoven addressed the genre around 1798. It was brushed aside by contemporaries, but the comments that did not make it into the newspapers must have been lyrical. Kavakos and Várjon also play Brahms' maiden voyage for violin and piano. The fruit of an accomplished forty-something. The tranquility and effectiveness of this piece are corresponding. After the two German composers, come two Eastern European ones. 'Mythes' is a virtuoso and poetic piece by the Pole Szymanowski from 1915. 'Divertimento' is an arrangement that Stravinski made of his own ballet 'Le baiser de la fée' .
