Composer Alvin Curran and pianist Daan Vandewalle have been making music together for more than twenty years. Among other things, their cycle Inner Cities has since become infamous. The composition Era Ora also has many guises. The title is Italian for "It's about time" or "Finally" or "Let's go." From this simple phrase, Curran and Vandewalle create a world of meanings.
As a piano duo, they make the sounds of the keyboards become the sounds of wolves, ship horns or Buddhist temples. In short: imagination in power.
Daan Vandewalle studied piano with Alvin Curran, specializes in contemporary American piano literature and gives concerts and lectures on American music worldwide. He has improvised with many icons of free music (Han Bennink, Fred Frith,...) but also performs recitals at numerous festivals.
Alvin Curran is an American composer, sound artist and writer who has been making his mark on contemporary music for many years, through sound installations, work for strings, winds and as an improviser within electroacoustic music. Above all, he is an artist who moves seemingly effortlessly between genres and worlds.
