GHENT FILM FESTIVAL BRINGS A MUSICAL ODE TO FEMMES FATALES
Marilyn Monroe, Janet Leigh, Sharon Stone, Jeanne Moreau and Nicole Kidman, these are just a few of the world famous actresses who have given a face to film history. Composer Alexandre Desplat and the Traffic Quintet bring a musical tribute to these mythical women under the name Divine Féminin. A wonderful film music evening dedicated to women.
Whether their name is Ingrid Bergman or Helen Mirren, some actresses are deeply involved in nested in the collective film memory. However, only a few are allowed to join the pantheon of these immortal women. The combination of dazzling beauty, excellent acting talent and a character full of character is simply not easy to come by. These exceptional actresses are the source of inspiration for a special film music concert by the Traffic Quintet.
Under the title Divine Féminin, it pays a musical tribute to the femmes fatales of the silver screen. The French composer Alexandre Desplat adapted music by fellow composers such as Bernard Herrmann, Jerry Goldsmith, Georges Deleru and Gabriel Yared. The accompanying images are by filmmaker Ange Leccia who based his work on American film noir and the work of the French artist Jacques Monory. The concert also includes an instrumental suite that Pacal Dusapin wrote for his opera Medeamaterial. The music is accompanied by images of Maria Callas in her only film role as Medea in the film of the same name by Pier Paolo Pasolini.
TheTraffic Quintetis an atypical ensemble founded by violinist Dominique Lemonnier. By bringing together film music and video art, the Quintet managed to take its own artistic path. Alexandre Desplat previously developed a program around Nouvelle Vague together with the Traffic Quintet. In addition to the Divine Féminin concert, Alexandre Desplat will also be present at the 9th edition of the World Soundtrack Awards, where he will be the central guest. He conducts the Brussels Philharmonic, which performs music from The Girl with the Pearl Earring, The Queen, The Painted Veil and Lust Caution.
