Throwing Muses

Rock band Throwing Muses was founded in 1983 by Kristin Hersh and her half-sister Tanya Donelly. In 1986, the group released its debut album - as the first American band ever - on the prestigious British label 4AD. The sharp, tormented and at the same time lively sound that characterizes Throwing Muses' early albums had a lot to do with Kristin Hersh's mental condition: she had a bipolar disorder, which caused her to hallucinate. In 1991, Tanya Donelly left the group for The Breeders and in the mid-1990s Kristin Hersh pursued a solo career. But Throwing Muses remained important to Hersh and since 2000 Donelly has also appeared at the microphone again. The last Throwing Muses album dates from 2003 and is the rock band's rawest and loudest album to date.

Newtown is a five-piece band from Antwerp that brings together various ingredients into a heartfelt rock sound. The essence is pure, and is brought to the boil at the right moments; Overheated outliers are thus alternated with sounds that simply hit. Newtown stands for indie and rock, with audible influences from Badly Drawn Boy, Motorpsycho and Built to Spill.
