The Walkabouts

"It took us a long time to make this new album. Six years in fact. It wasn't that we stopped being a band during that time, it was just that other things took over. Life took over , and that is a hard thing to control and slow down." (Chris Eckman)

But the new album is now available: 'Travels in the Dustland'. Eckman came up with this title while plowing through the sands of the Sahara in a rusty jeep. The words inspired him to write new songs and rehearsals and recording sessions soon followed with the same musicians who contributed to most of the other Walkabouts albums: Carla Torgerson, Terri Moeller, Michael Wells and Glenn Slater. Paul Austin (Willard Grant Conspiracy) joined them in the studio and provided new insights and possibilities.
'Travels in the Dustland' is a song cycle set in a fictional place (the dustland). The Walkabouts wanted songs that sound as vast as the landscape that inspired them, that contain a hint of experiment, but that above all draw strength from the experience and talent of the musicians.
