The Swell Season

Anyone who loses themselves in the passion of Damien Rice or who enjoyed the overwhelmingly fragile Scott Matthew in the Handelsbeurs should not miss The Swell Season for anything. The Irish singer of The Frames, Glen Hansard, and the Czech singer/pianist Markéta Irglová released the album 'The Swell Season' in 2006, after writing music together for the movie 'Beauty in Trouble'. The title of the record is inspired by the book of the same name by Josef Skvorecky and subsequently became the name of the duo. The two met again in the film Once, where Hansard and Irglová play the leading roles. In February 2008 they won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for the song Falling Slowly. The songs of The Swell Season strike a heartfelt balance between melancholy and hope. Expect a heart-warming and intimate concert, face to face with the artists.

Mark Geary was born in 1973 in Dublin. At the age of nineteen he emigrated to New York, where he gradually worked his way up to become a respected and popular singer-songwriter. His self-titled debut album was released in 1999. Geary has worked with names such as Colm Quearney, Dave Odlum, Karl Odlum, Glen Hansard and Brendan O'Shea. His latest album 'Opium' has been on the shelves since April 2008.
