The Klezmatics

The Klezmatics are known for their adventurous sound, which fuses world music, American traditions and the richness of Yiddish culture. This group around trumpeter Frank London left its mark on the revaluation of klezmer, the melancholic festive music of Jewish musicians from Eastern Europe of the last century.

With a seemingly self-evident nonchalance, The Klezmatics knead traditional klezmer, influences from Latin and folk, Celtic sounds, and a lot of jazz into a particularly streamlined example of world music. Although the band is inspired by the music of Abe Ellstein and Dave Tarras from the 1940s - 50s, the lyrics are about contemporary social and political issues. This earned the group the nickname “the planet's radical Jewish roots band”.

In 2006, The Klezmatics released the album “Wonder Wheels”. With a great eye for detail, the group set music to previously unpublished texts by Woody Guthrie. In the United States, the assembled press jumped to their feet cheering at the release of this record.
