Susheela Raman

In April 2004, Susheela was a guest at the Handelsbeurs for the first time. She had already made a name for herself with 'Salt Rain', her 2001 debut that earned her a Mercury Prize nomination, and with 'Love Trap', on which she perfectly combined East and West. She just released her third album. On 'Music For Crocodiles', the British-Indian Raman continues her search for her multicultural identity. For some of the songs she went to her roots in India to record with local musicians. Yet there is also room for other influences: Raman sings in English on most of the songs and she also dabbles in African melodies. In this way the whole unfolds into a fascinating melting pot of worldly sounds. In short, Susheela Raman is a remarkable lady with a fascinating cultural background that she translates into beautiful, dreamy tones.
