DEBUT ALBUM BRIMMING WITH HIPHOP, ELECTRONICA AND FUTURE FUNK
Fat beats, quirky improvisations, dangerous synth lines and alien grooves. That's Ghent based STUFF. in a nutshell. This five-man band hovers in the crossover between hip-hop, soul, electronica and jazz inspired future funk. Consider the groundbreaking J Dilla, Kraftwerk, Flying Lotus and Hudson Mohawke, but then fused into a unique sound. Until now they were only a magical live experience, but with the release of their untitled debut album, this will change.
STUFF. uses samples and loops as a framework for adventurous and technically demanding jam sessions. They performed at the Handelsbeurs as the supporting act to the Robert Glasper Experiment, and their set at Boomtown was described as "one long highlight." If you want a foretaste, you can already listen online to some highly appreciated remixes of Afrika Bambaataa, Jungle and Little Dragon, which they produced while they were artists in residence at the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels.
"In the year 2015, the fusion jazz funk premise does not sound particularly exciting. But STUFF. is an exception to this rule. To all rules actually." (From the Belgian Sound of 2015 list published by De Morgen newspaper)
