Spectra Ensemble

The Spectra Ensemble - named after the group of composers who put Ghent on the avant-garde map in the 1960s - may be playing a home match, but has chosen a nomad as its common thread: the cymbalon. The infectious string and percussion instrument belongs to the instruments of the Gypsies, but in this program it is used almost hygienically, as a protagonist in a contemporary discourse. Although it is of course no coincidence that two of the composers performed are Hungarian. Peter Eötvös (°1944) wrote 'Psy' as a chamber music version of his great work 'Now, Miss!'. 'The messages of the late Miss R.V. Troussova' meant the breakthrough for György Kurtag (°1926) and his musical ideas. In short: economy of resources, conciseness of thought, love for the sound and the acoustic event. Luca Francesconi (°1956) - perhaps the most playful among the famous Italian composers - has just written a real cimbalon concerto. This was immediately gratefully taken care of by Spectra.
