Sparklehorse + Fennesz

The combination of Austrian guitar and laptop artist Christian Fennesz with Sparklehorse brain Mark Linkous does not seem obvious at first glance. Fennesz creates a beautiful universe of swirling, icy silence with his music, while Linkous expresses a bleeding heart full of raw imperfection. Linkous lost consciousness for fourteen hours in 1996 after an overdose of antidepressants, Valium, alcohol and heroin. This near-death experience is said to have determined the gloomy tone of the Sparklehorse album 'Good Morning Spider'. In 2001, however, Linkous was there again with the release of 'It's a Wonderful Life', which included Tom Waits, PJ Harvey and Vic Chesnutt.

At the request of the Dutch label Konkurrent, Fennesz and Linkous entered the studio together. They were given two days of studio time and the freedom to do whatever they wanted. The beautiful result will be published in September this year under the title Sparklehorse + Fennesz 'in the Fishtank'. The overwhelming atmosphere of the songs arises at the intersection between abstract sounds and carefully crafted traditional song structures, between acoustic instruments and electronics.
