Septeto Nacional Ignacio Pineiro, the group name is a mouthful and therefore the musical history of this legendary Cuban son group is even richer. The founder of the band, Igancio Pineiro, grew up in Pueblo Nuevo, the black neighborhood of Havana, and was already musically active as a child: he sang in choirs and played drums and bass. He joined Maria Terese Vera's Sexteto Occidente and traveled with them to America in the 1930s. As soon as he returned to Havana, he focused on the authentic son and formed his own band, Septeto Nacional Ignacio Pineiro. In a short time they became the standard for the Cuban song genre, in which Ibrahim Ferrer of the Buena Vista Social Club later also became known. Meanwhile, the Septeto Nacional Ignacio Pineiro is in its third generation of musicians, but the authentic fire from those early days is still raging as fiercely.
