Rickie Lee Jones

Rickie Lee Jones is a standout among singer-songwriters. She writes beautiful lyrics and never minces her words. She rebels, hits, anoints, dreams and shouts her opinion from the rooftops. But she always does it with style.

When Rickie Lee Jones left her parental home, she lived a vagabond life for several years. She sang in clubs here and there and wrote poems and monologues. On her wanderings she bumped into Tom Waits, with whom she later had a relationship. Rickie Lee Jones' artistic talent was bursting at the seams. She was labeled as the natural successor to Joni Mitchell and made her breakthrough in 1979 with the song “Chuck E's in Love”.

Critics fell to their knees and praised Jones' elastic voice, fresh lyrics and unique combination of folk, jazz and R&B. There seems to be an unwritten rule in the music world that it is better to limit yourself to one genre if you want to build a broad fan base. Rickie Lee Jones breaks that rule with gusto. She does what she wants and that always turns out to be good for rock-solid yet simply wonderful music to sink into.
