Top bassist Richard Bona has more than earned his stripes with artists such as Chaka Khan, Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Harry Belafonte and Harry Connick Jr. Bona did come a long way before crawling onto the stage with these greats. As a young boy in a Cameroonian village, he had to make his own instruments to satisfy his inescapable musical urge. Fortunately, years later he had the opportunity to develop his true talent in Paris and New York. Today Bona is acclaimed as a solo bassist with a very personal style. It is located at the crossroads of various styles – jazz, bossa nova, pop, afro-beat, song and funk. He combines all these influences with his African musical roots and with a voice that is sometimes compared to Youssou N'Dour. In short: wonderful funky jazz with an African edge.
