Rhys Chatham: 'G3' + Leo Abrahams, Seb Rochford & guest Rodrigo Fuentealba

On September 23, the guitar will take center stage at the Handelsbeurs. In this double concerto you will discover her not only as an instrument, but also as an object, percussion tool, extension and medium.

RHYS CHATHAM & GUESTS: 'G3'

The music of Rhys Chatham (New York) has one foot in the minimalist avant-garde, where great composers Lamonte Young, Terry Riley and Steve Reich made their mark, and the other foot in the infamous punk scene of the 1950s. '70s, with bands like The Ramones and Sonic Youth. In 1977, Rhys Chatham brought these elements together in his legendary 'Guitar Trio'. It would later be renamed 'G3', because not three, but no less than ten guitars, a bass and drums now join forces to perform this thrilling piece.

The floating overtones, the undulating dynamics, combined with the energy and complete dedication of the performers, guarantee an unforgettable experience. The spiritual and quasi-hypnotic character provides a trance-inducing stimulation of the senses.

Leo Abrahams is an English guitarist who has collaborated with artists such as Brian Eno, Marianne Faithfull, Grace Jones, Paul Simon and Bryan Ferry. For this special occasion he joins forces with drummer Seb Rochford (Babyshambles, Polar Bear) and invites the Ghent-Chilean guitarist Rodrigo Fuentealba (Gabriel Rios, Novastar) as a guest.
