Raphaëlla Smits & Het Ensor Strijkkwartet met Dirk Van Gorp, Kristel Borghlevens en Mireille Capelle

The Spanish composer Joaquin Rodrigo scored a world hit in 1939 with the 'Adagio' from his 'Concierto de Aranjuez' for guitar and orchestra. This concerto gave rise to numerous arrangements, such as those by Gil Evans and Miles Davis for the jazz album 'Sketches of Spain'. Raphaëlla Smits performs the slow movement from this masterpiece in an arrangement for guitar and ensemble. After her solo concert last season, Smits is now making full use of the possibilities of an accompanying ensemble. In this formation, classics such as the 'Serenade for guitar and strings' by the American composer Malcolm Arnold, dedicated to Julian Bream, and the 'Concierto de Volos' by the Cuban composer Leo Brouwer can be performed. > and of course the exciting 'Fandango' quintet by Luigi Boccherini. The southern atmosphere is also reflected in the solo works: 'Saeta', by Wim Henderickx, based on Andalusian religious chants, and some romantic works by the Spanish composer Antonio Jimenez Manjon.
