Rachel Unthank & The Winterset

Rachel and Becky Unthank may not yet be the best-selling British girl group of the moment, but they are well on their way to becoming the most charismatic and inventive. As daughters of folk musicians, they decided to continue their parents' music and give it their own voice. The combination of their special voices with a pianist who is at home in every genre except folk, results in a whole new genre. Their music is simultaneously rough and soft, old and modern, desolately cold and painfully intimate. The fact that Rachel Unthank & The Winterset can no longer remain hidden from the general public is proven by, among other things, the nomination of their album 'The Bairns' for the Mercury Prize 2008.
