Quatuor Terpsycordes (strijkkwartet), Jürg Dähler (altviool) & Joel Marosi (cello)

THREE SHADES OF ROMANCE

Inspired, intelligent and incredibly nuanced: the Quatuor Terpsycordes was trained by leading musicians and was later regarded as one of the best young string quartets with numerous awards. Their recordings of Schubert and Haydn are overloaded with superlatives. With a game that is at once clear, thoughtful and compelling, they give the familiar masterpieces a new breath. In the Handelsbeurs the quartet becomes a quintet and even sextet: Jürg Dähler plays second viola, Joel Marosi second cello. Their program covers the entire Romantic era: from the young Schubert - he wrote his Overture for quintet when he was fourteen - to the reasoned passion of Brahms, to Schönberg's highly romantic Verklärte Nacht. Here the young Schönberg broke with Brahms and successfully embraced Wagner: to this day, this sextet overshadows his dodecaphonic oeuvre in terms of fame.

Quatuor Terpsycordes: Girolamo Bottiglieri & Raya Raytcheva (violin), Caroline Haas (viola), François Grin (cello)
