Ten years after their founding, the French Quatuor Ebène is one of the world's most sought-after young string quartets, with approximately one hundred and twenty concerts per season. With their balanced interplay, fine sound and energetic interpretations, they have conquered their own place in the music world. According to the members themselves, the key to the success of this quartet has a less than romantic explanation: it is the result of hard work, with hardly any time for relaxation. In addition to their ambition to continually surpass themselves in the performance of classical quartet music, the Quatuor Ebène also wants to specialize in the performance of arranged film music and jazz, in order to break down the barriers between 'serious' and 'light' music. For the second time as guests at the Handelsbeurs, they play Haydn and Bartók - they have dedicated a special recording to each of them - supplemented with one of the highlights from Brahms' chamber music works: the piano quintet opus 34.
