Qntal/Estampie

Ghent Festival of Flanders excels in pushing boundaries. It has been proving that for 52 years. In 2010 too, people are looking and thinking further than the obvious. The roots of the gothic are literally confronted with its descendants.

The famous band Qntal and its alter ego Estampie were founded by the classically trained musicians Michael Popp and singer Syrah (Sigrid Hausen). In the early 1990s, Qntal surprised the gothic scene with the album Qntal I and especially with the club hit 'Ad Mortem Festinamus'. In terms of genre, Estampie is considered part of medieval music, but is also influenced by modern music such as pop and world music. Mainly medieval musical instruments are used without electronic amplification.

Qntal and Estampie perform traditional medieval music in the first part of this exceptional concert and in the second part the audience finds themselves in the world of the gothic: The Dark Night of the Soul. A special experience!
