Phronesis 'Pitch Black'

Performing in complete darkness, award-winning British/Scandinavian jazz trio Phronesis explore our sensory relationship with music, looking at how musical perception can change according to the absence of one of our senses. Does the absence of one sense heighten our other senses? How do we communicate with those around us? Is our awareness changed? What do we feel and hear? Do we ‘look’ at things differently?

Phronesis premiered this extraordinary project to a sold-out house at Brecon Jazz Festival in August, 2011. The concert was described in a 5-star review in the Telegraph as a ‘unique, unmissable triumph’. Subsequent performances have included a sold-out concert at the South Bank Centre as part of the London Jazz Festival and Sendesaal in Bremen, Germany. In 2012, Phronesis were awarded the London Jazz Award for their Pitch Black project at the London Awards for Art and Performance.
