In 1977, Paul Weller burst onto the English music scene with his group “The Jam”, along with the first wave of punk bands. The Jam's music ran on the same sparks, energy and inspiration, but their lyrics and style were more in line with what would later become the new wave bands. The Jam stood on the sidelines of punk, gained a solid fan base there and grew beyond most of the punk bands. They scored their definitive breakthrough hit with “Going Underground”. Between 1980 and the band's break-up in 1982, The Jam were Britain's most popular band.
Weller subsequently played in the group “The Style Council” and built an impressive solo career. He was inspired by bands like The Kinks, The Small Faces and The Who and in turn influenced an entire generation of musicians. To this day, Weller remains known as one of Britain's most beloved and influential musicians. In 2006 he received a Lifetime Achievment Award at the Brit Awards.
On this “Variations of a Dream” tour he is joined by guitarist and “Ocean Color Scene” group member Steve Cradock. Call it an icon in music history, which will kick off the new Handelsbeurs concert season at cruising speed on September 13.
SUPPORT: AMY MACDONALD
Amy MacDonald taught herself to play guitar at the age of twelve. She is now 20 and has released her debut album, 'This is life'. It is no coincidence that one of the catchiest songs on this album is the atmospheric song 'Let's start a band': brilliantly sung and beautiful in all its simplicity.
