1964. In St Petersburg Galina Ustvolskaya mourns the death of her beloved. There she composes the duet for violin and piano, ascetic music full of loneliness and crushing blows.

2005. Patricia Kopatchinskaja goes on tour with Herreweghe with an almost provocative interpretation of Beethoven’s violin concerto. The result is a widely acclaimed CD recording. It is clear that her uncompromising musicality is perfect for the intense works of Schumann and Ustvolskaya.
