In the autumn of 1918, Arnold Schoenberg founded the Association for Private Musical Performances in Vienna. The intention was to give well-rehearsed performances of modern works, which received too little attention in the regular circuit, for a select and interested audience. For those concerts, large-scale orchestral works were arranged for a smaller chamber music ensemble. These operations appear to be tailor-made for Oxalys. Their recordings of Das Lied von der Erde and Mahler's Fourth Symphony in such a reduced line-up were a hit. Max Reger's Romantic Suite is considered one of his best orchestral works, in which he translates Eichendorff's poem Nachtzauber into exquisite timbres that are on par with Debussy. Alexander von Zemlinsky was another colorful key figure in Vienna. His delicate songs based on texts by Maeterlinck from Ghent were examples for Anton Webern and Alban Berg. As a soloist, Oxalys brings along Christoph Prégardien, who, as the icing on the cake, will perform Mahler's cycle Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen.
