Openingsconcert: Thomas Bauer (bariton) & Jos van Immerseel (pianoforte)

A PERFORMED 'WINTER REISE'

Empathy, that's what it's all about in an interpretation of Schubert's Winterreise. Baritone Thomas Bauer certainly took this to heart: he studied Willem Müller's poems in detail and undertook a winter concert tour through Siberia with this song cycle on the program. But there is more that these performers can bring to the table. Jos van Immerseel plays a unique piano from Schubert's Vienna. This piano has a sound that reflects the vulnerable and penetrating character of the Winterreise particularly convincingly. No wonder that the recording that these two top musicians made of Schubert's masterpiece in 2010 was widely acclaimed. De Standaard calls it a “chillingly effective result”, BBC Magazine a “tingling performance”. This winter walk will undoubtedly keep you warm!
