Prior to her performance at Handelsbeurs Sara Mingardo got some excellent practice at the Royal Albert Hall and Carnegie Hall. The combination of her deep alto and dynamic higher register is rare and thrilling. The repertoire she has chosen for this recital provides plenty of opportunity for us to admire that versatility. She sings of love in all its facets, resounding with the velvet melancholy of the baroque repertoire, the wild capers of the early bel canto and the emotional richness of Brahms and Mahler. Stefano Gibellato, her regular accompanist at the piano and the harpsichord is in his element in the contemporary lied and opera world.
