Euphoric, frivolous, light-hearted and moving… The music of the Flemish Myrddin is a fresh new wind in the flamenco world. As a member of the 'De Cauter clan', Myrddin grew up in a very musical family. Father Koen De Cauter has made his name not only on the Ghent stages, but also among the general public. His love for the gypsy music of Django Reinhardt is well known and he is one of the few musicians who can perform these unique guitar songs. When son Myrddin discovered the flamenco guitar at the age of fourteen, his father immediately sent him to learn from great teachers such as Manolo Sanlucar, Gerardo Nuñes, Rafaël Riqeuni and Enrice De Melchor. With this solid foundation in his pocket, Myrddin took his own path and, as a young boy, effortlessly survived among these old Spanish guitar stalwarts. With six other musicians he formed the group “Myrddin y compadres”, which explores the intersections of flamenco with other musical styles. The company proves that flamenco combines various influences such as jazz, classical and ethnic music styles. For Myrddin himself, it does not matter which style or label is attached to his music. He is merely concerned with “the expression of essential existential feelings”. This immediately explains why you are drawn into Myrddin's music again and again, as if a new world opens up for you.
