Mahieu Vantomme Quartet
The collaboration between Tom Mahieuand Dominique Vantomme originated in the Jazz Department of the Royal Conservatory Ghent. From the start, the duo sought its own musical language, in the form of personal compositions and idiosyncratic arrangements of the standard jazz repertoire. The collaboration quickly developed into a concrete group, with changing rhythm sections. In the spring of 2002 the band released its first CD independently. 'Wicked Places' was excellently received by the Belgian press and a number of leading jazz musicians. The second album 'Whatever' was released on the jazz label 'De Werf' in April 2004. A new album will soon be on the shelves.

Five musicians, active in the Belgian jazz scene, initially came together to breathe a breath of fresh air into the classical jazz repertoire. They gradually found their own sound by experimenting with different sounds and influences from grandmasters such as Mark Turner, Dré Pallemaerts, Stéphane & Lionel Belmondo, Jim Black, Gabriel Fauré, Claude Debussy,... incorporate it into your own compositions and arrangements. Every musician has his own musical background. By giving space to each individual voice, they create an interactive atmosphere full of intimacy and exuberance.
