Mephiti / Howard Peach

THE NORTH VS NEW YORK

Saxophonist Erik Bogaerts brings old acquaintances together under a Scandinavian flag. With lyrical jazz, folk, free improvisation and soundscapes, Mephiti brings the mystique of the Swedish village Harlösa to life.

The trio Howard Peach balances on the edges of free jazz through electronically supported sound fields. Inventiveness is the asset of drummer Lander Gyselinck and his companions from New York.

MEPHITI

With the 'Young Jazz Talent Ghent' prize in 2008 and numerous creative projects Bogaerts completed an impressive course. For the first end result of his love for Scandinavia, he sought out not the least instrumentalists.

The Lithuanian singer Indrė Jurgelevičiūtė, who also plays the Baltic string instrument kanklės, creates the sound of Mephiti complete.

Erik Bogaerts (sax, compositions), Stijn Cools (drums, electronics), Bert Cools (guitar, electronics), Indrė Jurgelevičiūtė (kanklės, vocals), Ruben Machtelinckx (acoustic baritone guitar, banjo, electric guitar), Brice Soniano (double bass, vocals)

HOWARD PEACH< /strong>

Howard Peach is a symbiosis of the Irish bassist Simon Jermyn, the American saxophonist Chris Speed and drum wonder Lander Gyselinck. After their self-titled debut in 2013, they picked up the thread again. Their interplay, peppered with details, may seem like a large composition, but it turns out to be a calculated dive into improvisation. It can go either way, but with these jazz phenomena it means nothing but good.

Chris Speed (sax), Lander Gyselinck (drums), Simon Jermyn (bass)
