Members of Marvelas, Dedos, DJ4T4

When James Brown started focusing more on the rhythm than the melody of music in the 1960s, he turned the soul music world upside down. His new funk rhythm hit like a bomb. Since then, funk has continued to evolve. At this concert, several Belgians show how flexible the genre is today. Whether hip-hop (Members or Marvelas), psychedelic disco (Dedos) or house (DJ4t4) is added, the rhythm of funk always provides a beautiful variant.

Members of Marvelas

Members of Marvelas (M.O.M.) fills a gaping hole in the Belgian music market with their cross between seventies funk/rock and old-school hip-hop. Take a look at James Brown, Rage Against The Machine, Prince and Urban Dance Squad and there you will find Members of Marvelas. The fact that the hip-hop of the two MCs has a funky rock sound is thanks to the five-piece live band. At the beginning of 2006, the group entered the studio with producer Michel Schoots, also known as drummer Magic Sticks of Urban Dance Squad. Both in the lyrics and in the choice of group name, M.O.M. often takes a philosophical approach. For example, 'Marvelas' represents a planet where different music styles are taken out of their boxes, where people are freer and where life is subject to fewer restrictions. Dedos

Dedos has come across an absolute success formula for catchy dance numbers through disco, chill , psychedelic and rock through funk. At least as innovative as Members of Marvelas and the result is impressive: fresh, hip, funky songs that come to you like a liquid gel. This second FunkAlert group also knows how to make optimal use of the funk rhythm. And once again standing still is not an option. The voice behind Dedos has a southern touch that will undoubtedly ring a bell with loyal Trade Fair visitors. Singer Philippo Fierens also makes himself heard in the reggae revelation 'Savana Station'. Put on your best dancing shoes. Dedos funkt!

DJ4t4

DJ4t4 is known as the DJ of 't Hof van Commerce and as the driving force behind the Funky Deep House Project Ultrasonic 7. He set he also shoulders other projects such as Atomik and Magik Ballet Ensemble. The man behind 4t4, Kristof Michiels, has been active in the music world since 1987. The start of his musical career bore a strong hip-hop stamp. At the end of the 1980s, hip-hop included house and funk, which immediately explains why DJ4t4 belongs in the FunkAlert series. It will be a matter of energy on this concert evening, because this funkman will undoubtedly throw a set of extremely danceable songs into the hall. Rhythm rules!
