Daniel Melingo is one of Argentina's most important musicians and a mythical figure in the Buenos Aires rock scene. His music career started with rock groups, but more than forty years ago he focused entirely on milonga and tango. Melingo is the punk figure among tango musicians and is seen as the reinventor of the traditional tango song. With visible inspiration he makes the tango his own and blows the dust off. Although he remains faithful to the classical use of instruments in tango: violin, bandoneon, guitar and double bass. His tangos sparkle with excess and beauty, love and cheerfulness, purity and fire, just like Melingo himself: “To be Melingo, one must walk the streets sniffing out poetry like a bloodhound. One must dance like a whip and sing like a scar.”
