Two piano virtuosos for the price of one, that's what we offered you as the official closing of our classical season. Argentinian star pianist Martha Argerich, celebrated and admired worldwide for her extraordinary technique and musical insight, has held a unique position in the piano world for almost half a century. She is known as much for her exceptional talent as for her erratic life course and unstoppable urge for freedom. Apart from her career as a soloist, she also enjoys playing chamber music. She often collaborated with Joseph Szigeti, Misha Maisky and Gidon Kremer, and she has also extensively explored the repertoire for piano four hands or two pianos, including with Nelson Freire, Stephen Bishop-Kovachevich, Nicolas Economou and Aleksander Rabinovich-Barakovsky, with who she took office this evening. This Russian pianist/composer is known, among other things, for his CD recording (together with Martha Argerich) of Messiaen's 'Les Visions de l'Amen' and for the most lively recording of the Diabelli variations.
