Girls who fall for the saxophone and dive into the nightly jazz circuit can be counted on one hand. Marjan Van Rompay is one of them At the age of ten she resolutely chose the saxophone, the instrument that spontaneously led her to jazz.

The musicians with whom Marjan Van Rompay surrounds herself are not the least familiar we of Dez Mona and Hamster Axis of the one-click panther (on tour with JazzLab Series in 2009). Janos Bruneel, winner of the Sabam Young Talent Prize 2011, also toured with us.< /p>

Marjan's compositions seem tailor-made for Janos, Bram, Dieter and Toon: through the many improvisations, each individual has the freedom to influence the music. The alertness they display for this guarantees an intense and exciting musical experience.

At the age of eighteen, Van Rompay went to the conservatory, first to The Hague, then Antwerp. Since the early years of her musical studies, she has composed music herself, which she has already played in various formations. The ambition to lead her own band became increasingly stronger.

A week after graduating as a jazz saxophonist, she recorded her first album: 'Silhouette' (released spring 2013, independently, on a brand new label: Echos). A CD full of own compositions and own arrangements. It became such a convincing debut that Jef Neve wrote a jubilant cover text for this record.

SONIC BOOM: URI CAINE – HAN BENNINK

Pianist Uri Caine is best known to the wider public for his sharp arrangements of classics such as Malher, Mozart, Bach and Beethoven. This is evident from the beautiful series on the Winter&Winter label.

Caine was trained as a classical pianist and was even taught by one of the greatest American composers ever, George Crumb. He moved to New York to become immersed in the rich music scene and worked with John Zorn, Dave Douglas, Pat Martino and many others.

His technical ingenuity and his broad musical experience and knowledge allow him to he conjures up the most amazing music from a piano.

When it comes to magic, Han Bennink is his perfect equal. The drummer who was recently knighted in the Netherlands, and was given all other possible awards, is the eternal child of the drums. Even though he has tons of experience and has played with everyone who has a name in jazz (from Johnny Griffin to John Zorn, so to speak), it seems as if he is sitting at his drum kit for the first time. Amazed by every stroke, visibly enjoying everything that comes his way.

The first CD of this imaginative duo was received with superlatives everywhere. A concert by Caine and Bennink can only be a party. Make sure you're there.
