She is young, exceptionally talented and is conquering the cello world at the speed of light. The Handelsbeurs introduces - not without some pride - the Serbian Maja Bogdanovic to Belgium. Born in 1982, she started playing the cello at the age of six and entered the Paris Conservatory at the age of sixteen. She graduated under Michel Strauss and Itamar Golan, where the jury unanimously awarded her the first prize for cello and for chamber music. Together with the Belgian pianist Julien Gernay, who became a semi-finalist in the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2007, she will also perform Rachmaninov's only sonata for cello and piano in addition to Beethoven, Debussy and Janáček. He was a virtuoso pianist and an instinctive composer. His style reflects his anxious and introverted nature. This is dream work for Bogdanovic, who always remains faithful to the score, but leaves room for freedom and imagination. According to this cellist, a concert is only successful if she can bring something new and genuinely surprise her audience.
