Los De Abajo

When they started in 1992, the members of Los De Abajo had a Latin-ska sound in mind. Gradually they realized that they did not want to limit themselves to one genre and so they also added Afro-Latin rhythms, a touch of rock, reggea and salsa. They got their name, which translates into English as 'those from below', from a novel about the Mexican Revolution and they do not fail to showcase their political beliefs in their texts. It is therefore not surprising that they were noticed by David Byrne's Luaka Bop label. With one of their records on that label, Cybertropic Chilango Power, they won the BBC Radio 3 Award For World Music in the 'Americas' category in 2003. Today they present their new album Lda V The Lunatics. Those who went crazy at Macaco and Amparanoia last year will also have a hard time at Los De Abajo.
