Lloyd Cole

Lloyd Cole has humor, a golden songwriting talent, an unctuous voice and a sense of emotion. He effortlessly strings together the goosebump moments. His songs are stories and musings on small and big life questions. Cole's career began in 1982 - when he was still a philosophy student - with the founding of “the Commotions”. His exceptional songwriting talent earned the group a contract with British Polydor and in 1984 their debut, 'Rattlesnakes', was released. With this album the group immediately made it into the 'NME Top 100 Albums of All Time' and even left the Beach Boys behind. In the following years, Cole went solo, experimented with different musical styles, formed a new band – the Negatives – and went solo again. In 2006 he released the album 'Antidepressant', thus completing the circle. Lloyd Cole returns to the vulnerable, melancholic sound of the early years. His name appears in lists next to those of Elvis Costello, R.E.M., The Velvet Underground and Morrissey. Or to put it in The New York Times: “Playing songs by Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen among his own, he tactfully demonstrated that his work could stand alongside theirs.”
