Lizz Wright was born in Georgia in 1980, the daughter of a pastor. As a child she sang gospel and played piano in church, but later her attention shifted more to jazz and blues. In 2002 she signed a contract with the jazz label Verve Records. A year later, she took the music world by storm with the release of her first album, 'Salt'. Critics hardly believed that it was a debut album. She immediately reached second place on the Billboard Top Contemporary Jazz chart. The world was introduced to the phenomenal, gospel-trained alto voice of Lizz Wright and quickly embraced it.

When 'Dreaming Wide Awake' was released in 2005, the album shot straight to number one on the same Billboard list and remained there in 2006. Her new CD, 'The Orchard', will be released in February 2008. Wright's music reconciles R&B with soul and jazz. Her songs are pure, full, heart-warming and simply beautiful.
