The name Lieven Tavernier became known in Flanders when Jan De Wilde scored a hit with three songs by Tavernier in the early 1990s. The First Snow, The Vanished Caravan and The Fanfare of Hunger and Thirst remained in the collective memory. But Tavernier himself was always sparing with performances. He prefers to stay out of the spotlight. His first CD 'Doe hetlicht' was released in 1995, which received rave reviews. His music is often described as poetry set to music, which leaves room to dream. Tavernier expresses in a moving way feelings that everyone experiences but no one can explain. A childlike simplicity can be recognized in his songs and that is exactly what makes this music so accessible. This is cabaret of the highest order. At this concert, Lieven Tavernier wants to present his own work to the audience. With the scarce performances in mind, this is undoubtedly an opportunity not to be missed to see this Ghent talent at work. Because before you know it, he can be gone again.
SUPPORT: BAL DES BOITEUX
This instrumental band is inspired by composers such as Ennio Morricone, best known for his music for westerns, and Yann Thiersen, who wrote the music for the film Amélie Poulin. But influences from jazz icons such as John Zorn and the more sensitive music of Eels, Beck and Zita Swoon can also be recognized in Bal des Boiteux's music. This five piece brings very surprising music with instruments such as diatonic accordion, violin, flute, double bass, guitar and bagpipes. The result is a fresh mix of all kinds of genres, ranging from jazz to rock and pop to modern classical.
