Lets Radio Kamer Koor & Arne Deforce

Arne Deforce, no longer unknown in Belgium, focuses as a cellist mainly on the contemporary solo and chamber music repertoire, with a preference for so-called 'unplayable' works and experimental improvisations. This concert with the absolute world top in terms of contemporary music choirs, the Latvian Radio Chamber Choir conducted by Kaspars Putnins, is perfect for him. The program guarantees an innovative yet familiar classical experience. Work by Josquin des Pres and Nikolas Gombert stands next to lively, contemporary music. A combination that feels as natural as if four centuries had never passed between the compositions of the pieces. The concert opens with Ave Maria by Josquin des Pres and the contemporary cello sound of Phil Niblock, supported by the video projection “Movement of People Working”: a spectacular musical explosion that will keep you going for the entire concert. Giacinto Scelsi is one of the most creative composers of the twentieth century. The immense power of his apparently simple music is almost impossible to express in words. The piece Tre canti sacri is his most intense and complex polyphonic work. The concert ends in style with a piece for cello, choir and tape by Rytis Mažulis, composed at the initiative of the Handelsbeurs. Mažulis and his work represent a new generation of Lithuanian composers. He intuitively tries to break through the fatality of narrative – linear – time and discover the depth of a sound. Through this special program, Arne Deforce and the Latvian Radio Chamber Choir let you enjoy a beautiful and at the same time turbulent marriage between cello and choir. An experience that will not happen again soon.
