Kris Defoort e.a.

With his new small ensemble, pianist/composer Kris Defoort literally and figuratively gives voice to music of all times and origins. That could be jazz by Thelonious Monk, a pop song by Prince or a standard by Rodgers & Hart. But also something by Monteverdi or Dowland, or the lyrical 'Tears' by Defoort himself. Defoort has already performed some of these pieces in meticulously orchestrated versions, in the ambitious composition 'Conservations/Conversations' or in the opera 'The Woman Who Walked into Doors'. Now he adapts them into poetic variations with plenty of space and freedom for a personal interpretation by a chamber formation, something between a classical ensemble and a small jazz band. Very special in this intimate context is the presence of singer Claron McFadden, who in recent years has made an impressive contribution to the aforementioned monumental works by Defoort.
