The Handelsbeurs takes part in The Big Draw during Kraakpand. As part of this drawing festival, cartoonist Geert Clarysse will capture the concert on paper. His drawings will also be shown. DAAU 'TEN DEFINITIONS' – CD RELEASE

The Anarchist Abendunterhaltung (DAAU) was founded in 1992 at the Antwerp Conservatory. In 1995, the first self-titled CD demonstrated a unique sound that has remained as elusive as it is original and authentic over the years.

The classically trained musicians played their acoustic instruments with a rock attitude, showed gypsy spirit and improvised. off to it. They stormed the scaffolds between classical music and pop with a lot of noise. What followed was a musical journey that regularly made them stars: six albums, an ever-changing line-up, excursions into barren areas such as electro, folk and jazz - but above all a live reputation to be proud of.

After the tranquil album 'The Shepherd's Dream' from 2010, the ensemble presents its seventh album 'Ten Definitions'. Slightly less tranquil than its predecessor and with a new line-up. Boris Wilsdorf (Einstürzende Neubauten) was responsible for the album's mix. With the return of Buni Lenski (violin) and new group member Steven Cassiers (Dez Mona, drums), DAAU sounds fresher than ever before with 'Ten Definitions'.

MOSKUS Moskus is a Norwegian piano trio that surprised everyone with its fresh and intriguing approach. They are rooted in the jazz tradition, but have their own unique sound. Their own timbre probably has to do with the erratic path of the band members. Pianist Anja Laudval and drummer Hans Hulbaekmo initially made waves with two cult rock bands. This also leaves its mark in Moscow. They combine playfulness with the seriousness of firmly composed music. “Occasionally introspective, sometimes outgoing but never aggressive nor humdrum, Moskus makes natural, organic music” (British music magazine The Ear).

It doesn't happen often that a trio of young people in their twenties make waves in the music landscape. Moskus himself made it spark across national borders.

THE UNUSUAL HISTORY OF ETHER

The Unusual History of Ether is a pop band whose musicians mainly come from the jazz scene. Irish songwriter Rebecca Collins and her Danish friend guitarist Mikkel Ploug take the lead. The group presents its debut CD 'Distant Age'. Collins writes good songs with rather dark lyrics (Mummy there is a monster in me / nobody wants to play with me / …). She has a beautiful, inspiring voice and her three musicians are all top performers. The music is fascinating, they do not follow well-trodden paths.

Mikkel Ploug is a welcome guest in Belgium. He toured extensively with his trio Equilibrium in which, in addition to the fantastic singer Sissel Vera Pettersen, Joachim Badenhorst also shone on bass clarinet. 2 years ago, Collins exchanged Dublin for Copenhagen, the city with mythical bands such as Efterklang, but also home to a whole series of young bands and a fascinating music scene: Iceage, Pinkunoizu, I Got You on Tape, Our Broken Garden,…. The band's name came about when Collins and Ploug came across the scientific article "The Unusual History of Ether". They thought it was beautiful, funny and mysterious, but far too long for a group name. Although...

Philippe Thuriot performs a selection from Bach's Goldberg Variations on accordion.

The Goldberg Variations by Johann Sebastian Bach are considered among the most important keyboard works of the eighteenth century. Goldberg was a student of Bach and protege of Count von Keyserlingk. The count suffered from insomnia and ordered the aria with variations to pass his sleepless time in a sensible way. Goldberg played them on the harpsichord behind a curtain in his room. Passion, joy, happiness, melancholy, sadness, loneliness... Bach had a matching variation for every emotion.

This time you will not hear the Goldberg Variations on harpsichord or piano. But Philippe Thuriot gives them a new dimension on the accordion.
